When your phone dies you often feel like you’ve died…or at the very least left helplessly floating in a world of disconnection.

The key to extended battery life is to reduce the amount of power your phone uses per hour.

Here are 5 simple tips to reduce power usage so you never have to feel disconnected from the world again:

  1. Reduce your screen brightness in the settings of your phone to a comfortable level (not a concert spotlight)
  2. In your phone settings change the screen timeout to about 15 seconds rather than the default of 1 minute
  3. Turn off your Bluetooth, this allows your battery to last about one hours longer
  4. Save any mapping tools for the car, and when using social media decline checkins which automatically activate ther GPS (one of the biggest battery suckers)
  5. Disable junk notifications, that photo of your friends breakfast can wait till later
